Statement

Painting

The only non invasive way to directly document my experiences of daily life for some of the most forgotten members of society; a snapshot of that moment of despair, of helplessness, drug addiction, prostitution, alcohol abuse, obesity, deprivation. All the ‘real’ elements that make up life in an inner city area. The results are a uniquely personal view of the often quite shocking subject matter of actual life in London, rarely glimpsed by the general public.

Film

Some experiences require reflection, they are those that often have affected me the most. Where the dialogue can reveal something far more important then the image. Discovering about life, about relationships and about communities. Some subjects are too complex for the canvas; domestic violence, mental health, care of the elderly, child neglect. For this reason I make films, films that lend a voice to just some of the issues that have impacted on me the most.

Sculpture

I use sculpture often as a tool to vent frustration at the inadequacies of the ‘system’, that is a system of society, which is set up by those it will never affect, in order to help those at greatest need. The result is an ineffective, clunky machine, one that cannot meet the needs of the society it is supposed to help. Enforcing the gap between those at the top and those at the bottom, do we live in a classless society?
